Here's the back stairway at what was Benjamin Franklin High School (now Audubon Charter School). Can you see how worn the treads are? The building was originally a courthouse (built in the 1830s, I believe). Maybe why so many of us in the class of '71 became attorneys? At one point, the building was a jail. As far as I know, only one of my classmates turned to crime, embezzling funds from the New Orleans Times-Picayune, where he was the newspaper's chief financial officer. |
