Picking 'maters with Papa Tom: June 24, 2016

Fox is just the right size to pick the low hanging tomatoes.

Watch out for worms!  This guy is now in the butterfly habitat:  we're going to see if he cocoons.  Then, he will be released far away from Papa's garden!

Can tomato pie be far behind?

"Hello!" (in caterpillar talk)

Kittens!

The kittens are almost ready for adoption.  They've been vaccinated.  Spaying/neutering tom come.  This is Milo, looking to find his way home.

This is our exploerer, Columbus, contemplating his next adventure.

Mama Teresa, the surrogate Mom who cared for the orphans.  She would so love to chase one of the birds hopping around on the deck!
Lady Sadie.  Tried to get her with an Easter hat, but she preferred hanging out in the GI Joe toy box.

Lady Sadie.

Happy Father's Day, Amon! (Sunday, June 19, 2016)

Fox took Amon for Mexican food followed by a stop at Thunderbird, around the corner from our house, for after-dinner hot chocolate and beer.

Happy Father's Day, a few days early: June 17, 2016

Happy Father's Day, Martin and Dad!  (at Grub's Burger Bar in Shreveport)

Happy Father's Day, Craig and Tom!

The guys all had burgers.  Martha and I had arugula/goat cheese/fig/strawberry/chicken salads.

On the road to Shreveport: June 16, 2016

Tomatoes packed and ready for their ride to Shreveport for my Dad and Charles.  And maybe some friends and neighbors?

Fox: June 15, 2016

We met with the real estate agent to list the condo on June 8.  He suggested that it would sell more quickly if it were empty.  Voila!  A week later, Fox and Amon are back to stay with us until Amon finds an apartment in the Brentwood Elementary attendance area.

One item at a time: June 14, 2016

If only it was still legal to ride in the back of pickups!  This would be a great way to get down the road.  Instead, the chair and ottoman are on their way to Next to New, a local consignment shop.  Hopefully they will be exactly what someone needs.

Sunflowers! June 10, 2016

Yes, "budding" scientests (bad pun), genetic selection works!  Last year, Papa Tom took the sunflowers from the tallest stalks and shook seeds from the flowers into the yard.  This year, we have sunflowers that rival Jack's beanstalk.  And the bees love the sunflowers.  We're hoping the monk parrots will show up too.

Our new best friends: Goodwill, Next to New, recycling, the curb for neighbors (one man's trash etc.)

So much stuff!  How did this happen???  Can't wait to divest ourselves of some of our things and Evelyn's things, in preparation for Amon and Fox moving in later this week.

Next week's photos will be of beautifully open space, with just the right amount of stuff.  Really.

Amon's unloading the Civic, starting the moving in process.

A house on Friday, June 10, 2016 . . .

A pile of lumber and debris on Saturday, June 11.  Another house in the 'hood is knocked down.  Being a corner lot, I'm guessing two houses will go on the lot.  Sigh.  I really hope the design goes with the neighborhood and the era of Dr. Seuss crazy-angle houses is over.

21st anniversary: June 10, 2016

We stopped at Upper Crust Baker for slices of Italian cream cake and mocha almond cake, and took the 21-year-old decorations from the top of our wedding cake out of the freezer., briefly, for the photo.  Put the decorations back in the freezer for, hopefully, at least another 29 years.  We want a 50th wedding anniversary.  It could happen . . . .

Our marriage is all growed up! (June 10, 2016)

Ah, yes.  A selfie 21 years later at Austin Beer Garden and Brewery.

Celebrating with some local brew and Patrick Swayze.

And because we're multi-taskers, we were on a reconnaissance mission for the Liberty Lunch reunion show on June 18. Our long-time concert going friends Sharon Reed and Jimmy Hellebusch will be joining us; we had to scope out the interior space and parking options beforehand to determine if we would drive ourselves or use an Uber-type ride service (but not Uber, which left town after Austin voters decided Uber drivers should be fingerprinted).  Parking is no problem; we'll be headed south in the Zoomer.

Dinner with our matron of honor, a day short of 21 years later: June 9, 2016

Tom and I had dinner with Cheryl at Hula Hut the day before our 21st wedding anniversary.  Cheryl has been there for our ups and downs for the entire 21 years.  Thank so much, Cheryl.  Love you!  (The flash on the phone was bright, hence the squinting).

Would you like a sweet kitty?

"Meow! Meow!  Take us home?"  Amon and Fox's foster kittens are old enough for adoption.  Are you interested?

Emma is our songbird!

Emma received a 1 at UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble and was selected for Meistersingers at Midway High School for her Junior year.  Many congratulations, Emma!

Moving: June 2016

We've been clearing things from Evelyn's storage unit.  She would be happy to see her things re-homed with us, Kirk and Sarah, and Bekka and Scott.  And I'm grateful for the manpower provided by Kirk and Tom!

Mastering the monkey bars: May 2016

Every time we go to Central Market, Fox tries to cross the monkey bars the entire way.

She almost made it this time.  Next time . . . .

The tomato harvest begins: May 2016

Nothing better than picking home grown tomatoes, except for eating them, of course.

Yikes!  A caterpillar made it inside.  He wasn't going to let go of his leaf until he was done eating it!

Dinner with Martin: May 24, 2016

The best thing about doing hearings in the Houston area is getting to have dinner with my brother Martin.  We went to Ula's for some delicious Tex-Mex.  I think Martin has been there a few times before.  He didn't need to see the menu to know he wanted chicken enchiladas for dinner!
