Charles and me (October 1955)

Charles fell in love with wheels long before he bought his first truck. He borrowed my tricycle to . . . dream of all the places he would go when his feet could reach the pedals?

In the meantime, he loved rides in his stroller. Here, we're at Mema and Pepa Hogan's house at the edge of the bayou. When not playing with Charles, I liked to stand between the sheets on the clothesline, surrounded by the smell of sunshine, hoping a breeze would snap warm, clean laundry against my face.
