Fort Davis loop (August 27, 2019)

The 75-mile Fort Davis loop through the Davis Mountains and Chihuahuan desert is the highest public highway in Texas.  The loop begins and ends at the town of Fort Davis, which takes its name from the military post established in 1854 to protect immigrants, freighters, and mail coaches from raids by Apaches and Comanches.
Why did the turkeys cross the road?
Promise of rain for a thirsty cactus.
We have no idea what kind of cacti these are, so called them either the "hair standing on end" cacti or the Despicable Me cacti minions.

Miles and miles of Texas.  We saw only a handful of vehicles for most of the 75 miles.
