I've always loved these wood-frame, single-pane windows, in the house since it was built in 1947 or 1948.
But when it became apparent that repainting them would involve removing each pane and caulking it back into place, we decided the 73 or 74-year-old windows deserved retirement.
The windows were falling apart and had to be propped open with a stick or they'd slam shut. Still, I loved them and their brass locks.
Mardi Gras room window removed. Thanks, Chris!
The original window in Papa's room is gone. I climbed through that window more than once when I locked myself out of the house. The brass lock on the window didn't connect; you could push the window up from the outside as well as the inside. Luckily, it stayed up and never slammed down on me as I crawled through.
